Philippines Travel Guide - Around Cebu
When you had enough of the hustle and bustle of the city, the beaches of Cebu offer a different kind of tourist fare. Cebu has many world-class resorts of where you can have lots of fun whether its day time or night time.
A huge coral island and only a short ride from Cebu mainland, Mactan Island has resort facilities and diving spots that rival the best in the world. Indeed, the whole of Cebu has excellent dive sites of more than 150 feet deep. Its eastern coast is lined with white-sand beaches, most of which are already thriving resorts of international caliber like Boracay. You can choose from among these: Shangri-La’s Mactan Island Resort, Maribago, Coral Reef, Bluewaters and Tambuli.
If you opt for something out of the ordinary, escape to a secluded area in Sogod at the northern part of Cebu. There, Cebu Club Pacific offers a tourist fare far from the dizzying crowd. Also, the rugged terrain is a perfect site for cliff-diving. It’s also famous for its nude beach so prepare to bare all what you’ve got. Also try the Tourist Seaside Hotel in Talisay—a short 15-km drive to the southern part. Buyong, also in Mactan is also a point of interest where the latest craze is night diving. Divers could attest that even the dim lighting underwater, the breath-taking scenery is always enchanting.
Also a must-see is the Badian Island Resort as well as Moalboal’s Pescador Island Resort. Moalboal is a famous coastal town in the southwest end of the island where the marine life and coral formations are spectacular. Popular among divers and windsurfers is Argao Beach Club on the southeastern side.
In the southern part and jutting out towards Bohol island, a neighboring province, are Panglao, Balicasag and the marine sanctuary of Sumilon Island at the town of Oslob. More adventurous divers find these areas perfect. And if you want to see a rare sight of huge manta rays during mating rituals, why not go to Pamilican Island. Of course, it’s so rare that you’ll be lucky to see even a glimpse of these wonderful sea creatures.
Other beach resorts are also located on the Mactan east coast like Duwaon, Tongo, Aquarius and Beachline. The coastal towns of Liloan, Danao, Consolacion, Carmen andd Compostela, and the Talisay towns of Tanke, Dumlog and Pook are also nests to fantastic beaches that tourists—foreigners and local—will find worth their travel to Cebu.
After all these tempting description of Cebu, are you still not itching to pack up your stuff and fly en pronto? Summer is not far away but why wait for the tourist rush? Now is a good time. Any time is a good time because—and this is the best piece of information you can get—Cebu has fine weather all year long!
